Donovans Turkey 2
People, you're never gonna believe this story, but I was there beside him when it happened, and I swear its true.
We had been sitting and calling for about 45 min. to an hour, when we saw a Tom coming around the bend in a little trail. Donnivan had him in his sights when I heard another turkey coming. I told him to wait a minute and lets see what the other bird looked like. Sure enough he was bigger. Finally, the bird got past some brush and gave Donnivan a decent shot (about 45 yards).Well for whatever reason I don't know, he missed his shot and the bird ran off through the woods. The first bird started to run and Donnivan wanted to know If he could shoot him. I said "sure go ahead" even though I felt that he was to far away, but when Donnivan shot, that bird went down and rolled, and then just layed there (I was shocked). I guess it wasn't as far as I thought.
Well we jumped up and ran to the bird and got him. I stepped off the distance from where we sat to where the bird fell. IT WAS 72 YARDS! I thought I'd made a mistake so I stepped it off again and got 73 yards. Well my brother-in-law was there hunting a different area and when he came in I had him to step it off and he got 74 yards. So I'm gonna say it was roughly 72 yards plus. Whatever it was, another fine Ithaca moment.
